Welcome to UniBEN Sports Centre

The Uniben Football team during the just concluded NIMSA 2016 Games. Uniben won the games event this year.

The NUGA council is the coordinating body for the NUGA, WAUG, FASU and FISU Game. University of Benin have hosted the 8th and 23rd NUGA Games in 1980 and 2011 respectively. While WAUG Game was hosted in 1995.

Mission:

The mission of Sports Centre is to create a modern sports environment that is endowed with the required human and material resources that could promote staff and student participation in sports as an integral component of University life and ensure the attainment of excellence in performance for the benefit of the University and Nigeria as a whole.

Vision:

The vision is to achieve excellence in production of high profile world class athletes capable of winning world University Games and Olympic Medals, secondly, that staff and students participation in sports is taken as an integral part of the University life and activity.

Revenue Generating Unit:

The Sports Centre is one of the revenue generating unit of the University. The Indoor Sports Hall is used for weddings, conferences, seminars, parties, meetings indoor sporting activities at affordable prices with standby generator. There are chairs and tables to be hired toward any activities. The main bowl is available for schools, churches and sports bodies for inter-house sports, church crusade, football league national athletic competition, meetings. The swimming pool for leisure and competitive events.

Since the University jointed NUGA at the 4th game in 1970 at University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have taken 1st to 7th positions amongst the old and new Universities. The University of Benin athletes have always been selected to represent the country in FISU Game in athletic, Taekwondo and Tennis games. In 2015 FISU games six athletes in athletic and taekwondo with a coach represented University of Benin at Gwangwu, South Korea.

The University Sports facilities are of Olympic standard. 400 metre tartan track with 8 lanes, 50 metres swimming pool, with 8 lanes natural grass and syntactic/Astroturf football pitches, two basketball court, tennis courts, handball and volleyball courts including modern indoor sports hall for combat sports, badminton, table tennis and basketball court.
